The overlap between family law and other areas of law is increasing.

As a general practice firm we are well placed to advise and act for clients whose commercial, trust, or property activities have family law implications.  We routinely advise on Property (Relationships) Act 1976 matters, which include:

  • Preparing relationship property agreements

  • Providing strategic advice regarding property interests prior to a relationship, or prior to a separation

  • Assisting with the implementation of relationship property agreements when a relationship ends

  • Advising about the Court’s approach to determining property interests

  • Obtaining appropriate property valuation advice particularly when values are disputed

  • Experienced representation through negotiations or Court proceedings required to determine a value for business interests

  • Division of relationship and trust assets through negotiation or, if necessary, litigation

  • Sale and purchase of property

We act for and advise clients in respect of family, charitable, and private trusts. We regularly work with clients to create durable trust structures that protect personal assets from business and creditor risk and relationship property claims.

We advise on the proper administration of trusts and the exercise of trustees’ duties. Our services to clients also include the preparation of wills and enduring powers of attorney, estate planning and administration, relationship property agreements, and acting as independent trustees.

The firm has a long history of acting for and advising trustees of charitable trusts. This includes creating charitable trusts, having charitable purposes approved by the High Court, assisting with registration under the Charities Act 2005, and advising on proper trust administration.
